Abstract of thesis

Communication, Control and Grid Integration of Scalable Concentrator Photovoltaic Power Plants

The control system of CPV power plants will get more important in the future. New applications are necessary to extend the functionality for operation, monitoring and maintenance in order to fulfill the demands of grid operators and investors. The specific requirements of CPV plants, regarding communication technology, devices and control strategies, are considerable more challenging compared to fixed-mounted PV and different to other industrial application. Thus, research in this  particular area is important for the success of the CPV technology. The overall aim of this PhD thesis is to deliver the scientific findings to be able to design a more appropriate control system for CPV plants in the future. In doing so, latest developments of communication technologies and embedded devices are taken under consideration. Scientific methods such as modeling, simulation, and validation are applied to develop new control strategies. The key result of the PhD work is the scientific analysis of approaches, validation of technologies and strategies and the design of exemplary solutions.
